Get in touch with our electricians in Manchester if you think you need a EICR.

Electrical installations will deteriorate with use and over time. Therefore, it is important that all installations are periodically tested to ensure that they remain safe for all users and they adhere to the latest safety regulations. The wiring regulations explain that the purpose of an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is to confirm, so far as reasonably practicable, whether or not an electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service. The report should identify any damage, deterioration, defects and/or conditions which may give rise to danger.

An EICR is often compared to a vehicles MOT check and will identify aspects within the electrical installation which can be classed as dangerous, potentially dangerous or if it is compliant with the current wiring regulations. These aspects will be given a code if it is found to be in an unsatisfactory condition which are defined below:

C1 – Danger present. Risk of injury. Immediate remedial action required

C2 – Potentially dangerous – urgent remedial action required

C3 – Improvement recommended

FI - Further investigation required without delay*.

*Where it has been stated that an observation requires further investigation the inspection has revealed an apparent deficiency which could not, due to the extent or limitations of this inspection, be fully identified. Such observations should be investigated as soon as possible. A further examination of the installation will be necessary, to determine the nature and extent of the apparent deficiency.

Once the report has been generated the person requesting the work will be informed whether or not the inspection has been satisfactory and if not be given an estimated price to rectify any of the defects which may have been found.
